Hot Weather Tips....
Fluid Replacement is key during hot weather days at camp. Our athletes will have access to water all day and a tent will be set up for shade. Wet, iced towels will be available as well. If need be, we will alter our schedule to accommodate the weather. We are in good hands with Robyn, our athletic trainer!!
KEYS FOR AVOIDING HEAT ILLNESSES:
- Eat breakfast. Proper nutrition is important for all athletes.
- Drink even if you are not thirsty. If you wait until you are thirsty, then you may already be dehydrated.
- Begin complete hydration a few days before camp. Consistent urination is a good sign of thorough hydration. Urine should be clear in color to indicate complete hydration.
- Water, Gatorade or any similar products are terrific sources to hydrate and replace electrolytes. Drinks like Red Bull should NOT be consumed by young athletes!!
- Fruits that are very high in water content and vegetables are terrific sources to replace vitamins and minerals and should be a part of each athlete's diet.
- Avoid soda, iced tea and anything with caffeine. Caffeine increases urination and can cause dehydration.
